Overview of topic

The topic of my blog for this semester will be about the growth of franchises and chain companies in the world and how they have begun to take over smaller businesses. It does not take much work to see this happening in any part of the world. When driving around the United States, everywhere you go there will probably be a McDonalds or Subway restaurant in any medium to large city. Business men and women have seen that opening up a franchise can be moderately simple, and bring in a lot of profit if the area is right. The amount of franchises open today is almost sad to think about. Especially in America, people have become so lazy and don't want to wait or drive very far for the things they need. When they are hungry, they want food right away, and eating at a franchise is more comfortable for them because they know what to expect. Even ordering the specific food has become mindless because the person doesn't have to read a new menu every time. I would also like to look into what makes franchises so successful in our society today. This link has information on that topic with regards to McDonalds, but it would be interesting to see the similarities and differences between other companies as well. (http://www.franchisedirect.com/foodfranchises/themarketinggeniusbehindmcdonaldsfranchisesuccess/14/25). Learning about franchises in our society today relates to the UH 370 class and globalization because franchises are everywhere in the world. A chain company can be found on any continent on Earth, except maybe Antarctica. Therefore, it definitely affects everyone in the world. Even though the franchising "idea" has been around for less than one hundred years, it has grown enormously fast. Driving past a chain restaurant or store is so normal now that people tend to not think about the effects it is having on our economy, and that it will possibly worsen our future economy. I also want to learn a little bit about the process of opening up a franchise, because I think knowing this will help me see what the buyer or franchisor needs to do in order to open up a store and explain why there are so many successful stores out there. Honestly, I don't think the idea of a franchise will ever go away, so it is something that people should know about, and not just blindly go to them every day without thinking about the consequences and long term effects. Currently, I work at a Subway restaurant, so I think this could be of good use for looking at how the company is run and what their values are.
